Abdul Gaffoor Mosque

The original Abdul Gafoor Mosque was built in 1859 by a southern Indian lawyer's clerk named Shaik Abdul Gafoor Shaik Hyder to serve many of Indian Muslim merchants. The mosque has subsequently been through many restorations. The current one was completed in 2003. Asian Civilisations Museum

Built in neo-Palladian architectural style, Empress Place overlooks the mouth of the Singapore River and houses the 14,000sqm Asian Civilisations Museum. The museum features 11 galleries housing more than 1,300 pieces from China, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Middle Asia. Read More...

Bright Hill Temple (Khong Meng San Phor Kark See Temple)

Covering 12 hectares, this is the largest temple in Singapore. A modern construction, this impressive edifice features many fine Chinese statues, shrines and decorations. There is also a large turtle pool and a serene garden and the temple grounds also house a crematorium.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

This interesting four-storey temple was completed in 2007. Inside visitors will find among other things a 27-foot tall Buddha statue at the main hall, one of the Buddha Shakyamuni's teeth on the fourth floor and a pagoda on the roof. Read More...

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

This nature reserve is also the site of Singapore's highest hill, located about 12km from the city centre. Though it is small (1.64sqkm), it contains many interesting varieties of plants and animals, including orchids, lilies, rattan, butterflies, squirrels, wild birds, monkeys and insects. Read More...

Cathedral of the Good Shepherd

This church at Queen Street is the oldest Catholic church in Singapore, dating back to 1843. Its construction actually triggered all-out competition between two great colonial architects of the time, D L Sweeney and J T Thomson. Thomson's design was eventually chosen, and a third architect, Charles Dyce, added a tower and a spire one year later. The church is now a designated national monument.

Central Catchment Nature Reserve

If your idea of a true nature adventure is to trek for hours on end, always running the risk of getting lost, then Central Catchment Nature Reserve would probably come closest to satisfying you. This 2,000 hectare reserve is made up of the forests around the Upper Peirce, Peirce, MacRitchie and Seletar Reservoirs. Central Sikh Temple

This temple at Towner Road is where many of Singapore's 15,000 Sikhs come to worship. It was built to commemorate the 518th birthday of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh guru, and houses the Granth Sahih, or holy book. A striking building of white marble, the Central Sikh Temple won the Singapore Institute of Architects' Design Award in 1986.

Changi Prison Chapel and Museum

This sobering museum is situated at Changi Prison which is still being used as a prison today. It gives a glimpse of the life of prisoners of war during the Japanese Occupation of World War II. Next to the museum is a replica of the simple chapel built by Allied prisoners during their internment. Chijmes

A beautiful five-building gothic-style complex, Chijmes (pronounced 'chimes') is one of the most popular dining, shopping and lifestyle venues in Singapore. Located on the grounds of a former convent school, Chijmes reopened in 1997 after years of restoration. Nowadays the main chapel (aka Chijmes Hall) is used for musical and art performances as well as for wedding ceremonies. Read More...

Chinatown Heritage Centre

Singapore offers many excellent museums. Visit the Chinatown Heritage Centre if you want to learn more about the rich history of old Chinatown and life of its migrants in Singapore.

Chinese and Japanese Gardens

The Chinese and Japanese Gardens are off Yuan Ching Road, and adjoin Jurong Bird Park. Each garden covers 13.5 hectares. The Chinese Garden, which occupies the island on Jurong Lake, is done in the classical Northern Chinese Imperial style. Stroll around the Chinese Garden and take in the majestic stone lions at the entrance, the stoneboat, the towering pagodas and the statue of Confucius.  Read More...

Chinese Methodist Church

Chinatown is home to many cultural buildings including Singapore’s first Methodist church. It is located on Telok Ayer Street and features an art deco style with a Chinese roof. Very interesting to see.

Church of St Gregory the Illuminator

This Armenian church built in 1835, is Singapore's oldest church. It is dedicated to St Gregory, the first monk of the Armenian church.

Now a national monument, the church is considered a masterpiece and was designed by colonial architect, George Coleman.

East Coast Park

East Coast Park is not only the most popular, but also the largest (1.85sqkm) park in Singapore. It was built on reclaimed land and offers various activities from water sports to cycling, rollerblading, bowling as well as an 18-hole indoor mini-golf course. Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay

Known by the locals as 'The Durian' because of its spiky roofing, Esplanade is a premiere performing arts venue in Singapore. Eu Yan Sang Chinese Medical Hall

As the name suggested Eu Yan Sang Medical Hall is where Chinese medicines are sold. It was built by a millionaire Eu Tong Sen in 1910. Since then it has become an important center for the local family. Other products sell include Chinese tea and herb.

Fort Canning Park

One of Singapore’s historical locations, this small park faces Orchard Road and is next to the National Museum of Singapore. It is home to a few colonial buildings (one of them was Sir Stamford Raffles' home) and is a popular venue for art exhibitions as well as art performances.  Read More...

Geylang Serai Market

Geylang Serai Market

Geylang Serai Market is located just five minutes from MRT Paya Lebar. The two-storey building is Malay style and houses a variety of Malay and Middles Eastern products (all halal) such as spices, medicines, batiks, scarves, cosmetics, vegetables and fresh food. Here, you will also come across exotic products like snakes and turtle eggs. There is an interesting food court selling inexpensive Malay foods in the market, too.

Hajah Fatimah Mosque

This mosque was built in 1846. Named after a charitable Malay woman who donated money to build it, the beautiful design is a mix of Malay and colonial styles. At the back of the Mosque are a number of old tombstones including Hajjah Fatimah's.

Haw Par Villa

Also known as the Tiger Balm Gardens, Haw Par Villa is a theme park built around the heroes and legends of Chinese mythology. The park, built with the fortunes made by the Au brothers from the medicinal cure-all Tiger Balm, features a collection of vivid plaster and concrete figures. Read More...

HortPark

HortPark

HortPark is a gardening and leisure/recreational concept. There are 20 themed gardens, for example the Fantasy Garden features characters from the Wizard of Oz . Then there is the Recycling Garden, Herb & Spice Garden, the Water Garden and a tree-climbing corner. HortPark serves as a link that connects Telok Blangah Hill Park and Kent Ridge Park.

Located at Imbiah Lookout on Sentosa Island, Images of Singapore is a must-visit historical museum featuring audio visual presentations showing Singaporean history and culture, focusing on its people and their lives. Istana

Formerly known as Government House, Istana is where the Singaporean President's office is located. It was built from 1867 – 1869 by Sir Harry St George Ord, Singapore's first governor. Constructed in the neo-Palladian Anglo-Indian style, it has beautiful surroundings and landscaping including a 105mm Japanese cannon, a six-foot high statue of Queen Victoria hewn from Sicilian marble, four ponds and an old well. The Istana grounds are open to the public annually in celebration of the following occasions: Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya Puasa, Labour Day and National Day.

Jamae Mosque

Another holy place to visit is Jamae Mosque which built around 1830s by Chulia Indians (Muslim merchants and moneylenders from India's Coromandel Coast). It is considered one of Singapore’s oldest mosques.

Joo Chiat Street

Kranji War Memorial

The Kranji War Memorial (9, Woodlands Road 22km), which is situated far away from the city centre in the northern area of Singapore, is where thousands of the Allied soldiers who died in Southeast Asia in World War II are buried. A register of the names of the soldiers who participated in the war is available for inspection. Singapore's presidents are also buried at Kranji.

Kusu Island

According to legend, this island was once a giant turtle that transformed itself into a huge rock to help save shipwrecked sailors. Today, the island is still embedded in various beliefs and rituals. Taoists make their annual pilgrimage to the Toa Pekong Temple near the ferry jetty during the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Read More...

Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple

Located on Waterloo Street this famous Chinese temple is dedicated to Kwan Im, the Goddess of Mercy. Each day a large numbers of worshippers come to pay respect and ask for her blessing. This major temple features Chinese-style roofs, granite tiles and the use of red, golden and yellow throughout the building.

Leong San See Temple

This Taoist temple is located right across from the Thai Buddhist Temple and was built to honour Guanyin (sometimes referred to as Guanyim), the Chinese Goddess of Mercy. She is popular among childless couples who come to pray for its blessings. Its main structure resembles a Chinese palace. Red and yellow are the two main colours used in this temple.

Maghain Aboth Synagogue

This synagogue at Waterloo Street was built by Singapore's small but significant Jewish community. Its architecture veers towards the Victorian.

Malay Heritage Centre

This Heritage Centre is located on the same grounds of Istana Kampong Glam, the palace of the former sultan. Malay Heritage Centre comprises nine galleries housed on both floors of the Istana Kampong Glam which tell the story of the Singapore Malays – the second largest ethnic community in Singapore, making up around 15% of the population. Marina Barrage

Marina Barrage

Officially opened in late 2008, Marina Barrage Dam is built across the Marina Channel with a catchment area of 10,000 hectares. It won top prize from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE) in May 2009. Locals use it as a recreational area for activities like kite flying and picnicking. Maxwell Road Food Centre

For visitors who are adventurous enough, a must visit in Chinatown should include those food centres (aka hawkers centre). Chinatown has a few to offer i.e Maxwell Road food Centre. It is a fun experience to learn about the original style hawkers food which not around on streets any more. The hawker foods are influenced by three main national cuisines, similar to the way Singapore is made up from; the Chinese, Indian and Malay. Many visitors are fascinating with the items offering here i.e. noodles with dumplings and roast pork, pork rib soup with rice, BBQ stingray with sambal sauce, satay, nasi goreng fried noodles in soya sauce with cockles and eggs. They are usually good and inexpensive.

Merlion Park

Mount Faber

Mount Faber offers superb panoramic views of Sentosa, the harbour, islands to the south as well as the busy central district. Nagore Durgha Shrine

The shrine has a unique blend of classical molded arches and columns and Indian Muslim motifs and was built by the Muslims of southern India.

National Museum of Singapore

NEWater Visitor Centre

Old Parliament House

Peranakan Museum

The Peranakan Museum was officially opened in 2008 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The Peranakan culture is a unique culture that is still part of Singapore’s living heritage. The museum features 10 galleries exhibiting more than 1,200 items of Straits Chinese artefacts. Those items include silver, porcelain, jewelry, textiles, food and religious items. It also covers the links with Peranakan communities in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar. Check out their boutique museum which houses the finest collection of Peranakan artefacts in the world.

Pulau Ubin

This mangrove island has become highly popular as a weekend retreat and offers an interesting variety of activities and sights. You can rent a bike and go mountain-biking on the rocky trails all over the island, go swimming, or camp the night. Read More...

Raffles Hotel

Raffles Hotel, a legendary property, consisted of only a few bungalows when it first opened in 1887. Nowadays it offers 103 suites with 65 boutiques and stores, as well as food and beverage outlets in the hotel’s arcades. The Raffles Museum is probably the highlight for none-hotel guests. It is a must for history buffs as the museum exhibits many period items from 1880 to 1939 including silver, china, letters and postcards plus many 19th century photographs of Singapore and Southeast Asia. Raffles Place

Raffles Place and its environs, situated right outside the entrance of Raffles Place MRT, are now occupied by skyscrapers such as the UOB Plaza and OUB Building. It is Singapore's business and financial centre, and is often known as the Central Business District. Sentosa Skyline Luge & Skyride

Siong Lim Temple

This large temple was built in 1908 and is now classified a national monument. The temple, which commemorates Buddha's birth and death, has a highly decorated gateway, accessible only by bridge, which opens into a courtyard. Inside the temple you will find huge incense burners and a beautifully carved Buddha imported from Thailand. The temple grounds also hold a monastery, a smaller temple and a rock garden.

Sisters Island

Sisters Island is good for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. You can also enjoy a picnic on the grass or the sandy beach. There is no regular ferry service to the island, however, so you will have to rent a water taxi (at SG$ 50 per hour) at Jardine Steps or Clifford Pier.

Songs of the Sea is another entertainment choice on Sentosa Island. Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple was built in 1881 and is dedicated to the goddess Kali. It is nowadays the busiest temple in Little India. Admission free. Please remember to remove your shoes when entering.

St Andrew's Cathedral

This elegant Anglican cathedral at St Andrew's Street was built after its predecessor, a church built by G D Coleman in 1938, was destroyed in 1852 by lightning strikes. The present cathedral was designed by Ronald MacPherson in 1856. A visitors centre at the church displays photos, pictures, artifacts and a video of the church's history. Guided tours are also available.

St John's Island

This island has several good beaches for swimming, and provides changing rooms, toilets, picnic spots and swimming areas. It is a popular as a weekend getaway and for camping trips, but you wish for something closer to civilisation there are always colonial bungalows that you can rent. Check with the ticket counter at the World Trade Centre.

Price Range: Admission to the island, which includes the ferry charges, is SG$ 9 for adults and SG$ 6 for children.
How to get there: Ferries from the World Trade Centre depart twice daily from Mondays to Saturdays, and six times a day on Sundays and public holidays. The ferries stop at Kusu Island as well.

Statues of Sir Stamford Raffles

The city-state has two statues of Sir Stamford Raffles, recognised as Singapore’s founder. Sir Raffles' dark bronze statue stands tall in front of Victoria Theatre. Its replica, made in pure white poly-marble, stands at North Boat Quay to mark the spot where he first landed on the island in 1819. Both areas are popular with locals, especially on cool evenings.

Sultan Mosque

The biggest mosque in Singapore, the Sultan Mosque is situated at North Bridge Road, near the ethnic quarter of Arab Street. It was originally built by Sultan Hussain Shah of Johore in 1824.

In 1928, the original structure was replaced by the current mosque, which was designed by Denis Santry. The Sultan Mosque has a massive golden dome and a large prayer hall.

Sungei Buloh Nature Park

The Sungei Buloh Nature Park is a great place for bird-watching, being a regional stopover for birds on their North-South migrations. An 87-hectare wetland reserve, the park is a little less than an hour's ride by car from the centre of town. Supreme Court & City Hall

The Supreme Court building, built in 1939, was one of the last colonial buildings to be constructed in the civic district area. Its handsome Corinthian columns boast murals by Italian artist Cavaliere Rodolfo Nolli. Temple of 1,000 Lights (Sakyamuni Buddha Gaya Temple)

The Thai Buddhist Sakyamuni Buddha Gaya Temple was established by the Thai monk Vuthisara in 1927. The architecture is mainly in Thai style with a large 15-metre-high Buddha statue seated inside the temple as well as many smaller images. The Buddha image is surrounded by numerous light bulbs, which is why many people call it the Temple of 1,000 lights.

The Padang

The Padang, which means simply "field" in Malay, was the recreational centrepiece of colonial life. The old colonial civic district of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has a similar landmark. This open grass field was where the more sports-inclined British played a round of cricket, or where people took a nice stroll in the evenings.
