Two very contrasting attractions can be found in the east of Singapore: The East Coast Park is famous as a fun-filled place to head to if you're after relaxation by the sea. With a manmade beach (featuring some highly professional sand castle and animal crafting), an 18-hole minigolf covered course and much more, this is a wonderful family destination.
In direct contrast, the Changi Prison Chapel and Museum is a sobering expose of what Allied prisoners of war went through at the hands of the Japanese during World War II. An adjacent chapel is a replica of the one built by the prisoners.

East Coast Park is not only the most popular, but also the largest (1.85sqkm) park in Singapore. It was built on reclaimed land and offers various activities from water sports to cycling, rollerblading, bowling as well as an 18-hole indoor mini-golf course. Other facilities include a manmade sandy beach, shops/kiosks, rest-rooms, barbecue stations and holiday chalets.
Singaporeans love food, so there are plenty of dining venues to choose from here. The East Coast Seafood Centre consists of eight seafood restaurants. Some must-try dishes include the spicy sambal stingray and satay (grilled meat skewed on sticks served with sweet peanut sauce).
Opening Hours: 24 hours. The park is lit from 19:00 – 07:00
Location: Situated at the southeastern part of the island
Katong is another nearby east coast area of Singapore full of rows of picturesque Peranakan homes and their traditional cuisine and products. Visit Katong Antique House (Tel: +65 6345 8544) for traditional Peranakan costumes and furniture, the Eurasian Heritage Center (on 139 Ceylon Road) presents Eurasian culture, from music to food, Rumah Bebe (Tel: +65 6774 3652) offers traditional embroidery and beadwork. And for those who like temples, try the Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple. It is famous for its stunning architecture and murals.
